Detached chain stitch or lazy daisy is a detail stitch that is a very useful stitch. I often use it for flower petals for example.
Bring the needle up and pick up a little bit of fabric. Wrap the thread around the needle, and pull through.
Make a small stitch to anchor down the loop as you pull the needle to the back.
