Welcome to The Floss Box blog!

I started a new biscornu a little while ago. I haven't really been very fast with it, but there is some progress anyways.

I really like the colors in this one. I've always been a fan of brighter colors, and this one has them. I will keep working on this and an embroidery project. There hasn't been enough progress on that one to show yet, but soon. :)

I haven't made all that many biscornu really yet, although sometimes it feels like I really have. For now they all sit together in a crystal glass bowl.

So many of my projects end up stashed away in boxes, but these are nice to see when I walk by them.

This lamp is so beautiful.

It was found at a flea market by Mr. Floss Box's father. He only paid $15 for it, and it's made of copper. Lucky find to say the least.

These poppies only last one day, but they are very nice while they last.

Once more I am back again from vacation. This summer has been great so far. I've managed to do many new things like try blacksmithing, fishing for crayfish, making jam, baking with different kinds of summer berries, and photographing butterflies. I've seen lots of new places too. I've taken a lot of pictures, so some of the better ones will be shown here in the near future. I still need to sort them out and resize them.

But back to stitching again. Jennie got the ATC I sent her, so now I can post it here.

This was fun to do. I am planning on making more such designs.

I've done some stitching while I've been out. It's sometimes a little hard to sit down with needle and thread when the sun shines, so I haven't managed an impressive amount. But there has been some time for stitching.

I bought a pattern a couple weeks ago that is a gift for someone. I only have a small start so far. I bought this design because it's a special style of stitching called Blekinge stitching after a region in SE Sweden. It's characterized by certain colors - shade of blue, pink, white and golden yellow. And it is actually a special kind of stitch that's like satin stitching except instead of carrying the thread over on the back, small stitches are made on the edges of every other stitch, so that most of the thread lies on the top of the fabric. This is done to conserve thread. Of course, that's not so much of a worry for me, so I will like just stick with regualar satin stitches since they are so much faster. Anyways, here is a picture of the project so far:

I am following a color guide for this project. The suggested threads are linen, but I'm just using regular DMC embroidery floss.

Here are a couple more summery pictures to enjoy!

I forgot to get a picture of one of my next projects. It's a present, but I already "gave" it to them, so I can show it. I have a few more summer pictures in the meantime to enjoy.

currants-2.jpg

The bushes have been full of red currants. I picked as many as I could. I ended up picking about 8 liters of them.

I think currants have to be among the best looking fruit ever. So bright and cheery. I made some jam with some of my harvest. The rest are in the freezer for now.

We've heard pheasants out clucking about from time to time, but never managed to photograph one until last week. We were inside, so it didn't get scared off. This is one fine looking bird!

I've been out a bit enjoying the summer. One of the "discoveries" this year is gooseberries! I've never seen them before or eaten them. Until now, that is. I picked over 4 liters last week. They are so big and quick to pick. It's so fun, but the bushes are a bit thorny.

I had to look up on the internet what to do with them because I had no idea. Found a lovely pie recipe for them. It was a great summery pie.

Of course, there is time for stitching too in between all the berry picking. I finally finished the biscornu I have been working on.

Now, it's onto an exchange ATC, finally. Of course, I won't show that until my partner receives it, but in the meantime, I do have other summertime pictures I plan on showing. For now, you can enjoy this final picture. The sunset on the sea is always beautiful...

biscornu429-wip.jpg

I have nearly all done on this biscornu design except the sheep. Those I put off doing so I could buy some crewel wool for them which I did last night.

I bought three colors that actually turned out to be fairly close to the DMC colors. They didn't have any DMC in the store either to compare colors with, so I did this from memory. Probably a sign of my little obsession with floss. ;)

I will get this sewn together in the next day or two, then there is an ATC up next. It's for an exchange I joined on stitchin fingers - which is a great place for everyone who does embroidery or stitching of any kind!
